Tanto en español como en inglés se puede hacer una propuesta o dar un consejo en forma de una pregunta lo que es más cortés que hacerlo de forma afirmativa. Al usar el subjuntivo o formularlo de manera negativa (no debes ir....) es todavía más cortés. La tabla abajo muestra los verbos que pueden servir para hacer propuestas o dar consejos.

Como en los capítulos anteriores también es posible proponer o aconsejar algo con un verbo pleno.

pregunta con 'What' What am I to do about this problem?
frase condicional 'if I were you' I would not go and buy a car with no money if I were you.
frase condicional 'if you ask me' If you ask me, I would go to the sea and just have a good time.
to advise He advised me to go to see a doctor.
The best thing is She said, the best thing was to go and ask.
had better You had better check the tires before going on a long trip with the car.
