27.4.6.2 Valores semánticos distintos

La tabla muestra verbos que pueden ser utilizados tanto con el gerund como con el infinitive, pero el valor semántico cambia.

Verbo + Gerundio + Infinitivo
to forget olvidar algo pensar en algo
  I'll never forget travelling South America. You should not forget to paint the fence.
to go on continuar de hacer algo hacer otra cosa
  After eating dinner they went on discussing. Having watched TV for two hours they went on to listen to music.
to mean significar tener la intención de hacer algo
  To be a boss means having a lot of work. I didn't mean to hurt you.
to regret en este caso se arrepiente por no haberlo dicho. en este caso le da lástima tener que decírselo
  She regrets not having talked to him. She regrets to tell you that you didn't get the job.
to remember acordarse de algo (dirigido hacia el pasado; vea to forget) pensar en algo (vea to forget)
  I always remember travelling to Italy. He didn't remember to talk to his boss.
to stop dejar de hacer algo pararse
  Please stop watching TV. He stopped to watch a plane in the air.
to try intentar algo tratar
  We even tried running to lose weight. We tried to lose weight (by running).
